My first stop was at the Gateway Arch in St. Louis Missouri. The Arch was completed in 1965 and is 630 feet high. This is a photo of me from inside the arch at the very top. I got to the top by riding in a passenger tram, which held five people. Thank goodness I am not claustrophobic because the capsule was super small.
The Gateway Arch got its name because St. Louis is considered the Gateway to the West. The city is located right on the Mississippi River so early pioneers traveled there by steamboat and then would go by land out west. It was sort of their last stop for supplies before their long journey out west. Anyway, there is a lot of history connected to the arch, but the cool thing to me was getting to see the city of St. Louis from 630 feet.
