Chocolat in London for Bede's Birthday Treat

Town: London

We left Plymouth on Friday 13 January 2012 at 16.30.  Bede's Dad drove all the way to London.  Whilst we were in the car, we had a picnic and drinks and Bede and Ava played on their games.

We arrived in the big smoke at 20.30, there were lots of big buildings and lights.  It was really exciting.  We were all so excited we couldn't sleep.

We eventually got to visit Applecross, which is a very remote village, but we had to go the long way round via the coast road. It was a long drive but very scenic. It was a pity the weather wasn't better though as it rained a lot. We explored the peninsula and ended up in the back of the back of beyond.

Over the bridge to Skye

Town: Elgol

The weather was not good for the last half of the week. We explored Skye for a day. We ended up in Elgol where there was a lovely small school right on the lochside. the cuillin mountains were very dark as the rain came over.

Missed out on the scary road

Town: Lochcarron

We wanted to drive to Applecross which is quite a remote village. We were hoping to take the Bealach na Ba which is a very scary mountain road. It is the highest road in Britain (2053'). Unfortunately the road was closed for maintenance for five weeks so we didn't get to see it. We stayed in Lochcarron area for the day instead. We visited the weavers and I watched tartan being made.

After church on Sunday in nearby Dornie we drove up to a viewpoint overlooking the loch with a fantastic view of Eilean Donan Castle. After that we explored Plockton which is a lovely village. The weather was quite good. We decided to have lunch in a restaurant in the village. In the evening we watched episodes of Hamish Macbeth and recognised the places where we had just been exploring.

On 22nd October I left school in Plymouth and flew up to Glasgow with Mrs. Wilde. We stayed over night at the airport and we were joined by Louise who is Mrs Wilde's sister. The next morning we drove up to Duirinish near Plockton close to the Kyle of Lochalsh. It was a beautiful drive. The scenery was stunning. The Autumn colours were fantastic and there was snow on the mountains. We drove along Loch Lomond, through Glen Coe, Through the Great Glen and on to our destination passing the very familiar landmark of Eilean Donan Castle.    We were staying at Duirinish holiday lodges which are lovely log cabins.
